Historical Sounds

In writing, we are told we should use all 5 senses, sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. Sound is probably one of my least used. So I’m going to try and put some resources together to force me to consider sound more. A simple search of Youtube, brings up several pertinent videos. I like this one.

There’s a wonderful article on Deborah Swifts blog, called The Sound of Time. It was published on Oct 19th 2016 Deborah Swift’s Blog It takes us through the hours of the day between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. and what we could expect to hear.

I have found how sound in London has been described in literature London Sound Survey

Have you got any links we can add?

Wonderful – I looked in your archives and was delighted to find this. How amazing…if you had that on in the background whilst writing about this period, it would really help. How did you go about hunting it down?
